HRV Balancing

HRV Balancing Report

Need An HRV Balancing Report for your Vancouver Project?

If you're doing a permitted renovation or new construction home in Vancouver, B.C., you'll need to have your HRV system design and balanced with a balancing report.

What does an HRV Balancing report include?

The HRV balancing report process for the city of Vancouver includes several different parts from start to finish:

  1. HRV System Design  Before your HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) for your project is installed, the certified HRV installer will need to adequately size the HRV/ERV system for your home. By designing an HRV system design, your contractor will know the exact size of the equipment and piping to be installed.
  2. HRV Equipment Installation After the HRV design is completed, your certified HRV installer can now install your system based on the design they've sized and designed for your home.
  3. HRV System Design Report Before you call for the framing inspection portion of an HRV installation, you'll need to have an HRV design report completed and stamped by a qualified HRV installer. This report verifies that the system is installed and designed properly for your home.
  4. HRV System Commissioning and Balancing Report The HRV balancing report is required once your HRV is completely installed. Properly HRV balancing will ensure your HRV will provide the proper amount of fresh air and is exhaust to your home as required by the B.C. Building Code.

  • How is an HRV system balanced?

A standard HRV/ERV (Heat/Recovery Recovery Ventilator) system is balanced using dampers installed in the ductwork attached to the HRV unit and by using a manometer to measure the static pressure inside the ducts to measure the overall airflow CFM's.

  • How long does HRV balancing take?

Depending on the size of your home, you should expect anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours to full balance a residential HRV system.

  • Why does my HRV need to be balanced?

Balancing an HRV system is beneficial because it ensures that your HRV system is designed and installed properly. A balanced HRV unit will properly cycle the airflow in your home and will have a longer equipment lifespan.

  • What does an HRV actually do?

An HRV/ ERV system (Heat/ Energy Recovery Ventilator) provides a constant stream of fresh air to your home, whilst exhausting the same amount of stale air - ensuring the air in your home is recycled according to the B.C. Buiding Code.

  • How much does an HRV Balancing Report cost?

The average cost of HRV balancing is $500-750 depending on the size of your home. Our HRV balancers are fully certified and qualifed to design, install and balance HRV systems.
